Funeral services for Sadie A. Ogden held October 6

Funeral services for Sadie Agnes Ogden, 83, of Jefferson, were held Thursday, Oct. 6, at the Central Christian Church with the Rev. Clinton B. Meininger in charge. Burial was in the Jefferson Cemetery.

Casket bearers were John Lawton, Robert Deal, Benton Jones, Orville Adkins, Harry Lawton and Floyd Monthei. Soloist was Dr. J. K. Johnson, accompanied by Mary L. Conway.

Sadie Agnes Ogden, daughter of P. C. and Elizabeth Powers Woodbury, was born June 16, 1877, at the farm home of her parents in Webster County, Iowa. Her early life was spent in the surrounding community where she attended school and passed the examination for a teacher’s certificate but due to her extreme youth was not permitted to teach.

On April 3, 1894, she was united in marriage to Fred Ogden and to this union nine children were born, two of whom have preceded her in death. Flora, the first born, died in infancy and Glenn died in January, 1939.

Those who survive her are her husband, Fred, her children: Mrs. J. R. (Clara) Morris of Riverside, Calif.; Mrs. Lee (Grace) Wadsworth, and Mrs. Ben (Sadie) Crews of Jefferson; Mrs. Mabel Francis of Long Beach, Calif.; Mrs. Ross (Mearl) Buihner of Springfield, Ore.; Mrs. Roy (Elsie) Monthei of Jefferson and Verne Ogden of Sanborn; 16 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, other relatives and friends; also one brother, Stephen Woodbury of Fort Dodge.

Mrs. Ogden was a member of the Central Christian Church, the Golden Age and a past member of Franklin Culture Club.

Coordinator's note: Although not appearing in a Madison County Federal Census, Madison County Birth Records show that they had 5 of their 9 children in Madison County starting in 1898 through 1907. A newspaper article in December 1908 claimed that they planned to move to Greene County in March of 1909.
