Dortha Elizabeth, daughter of Elizabeth (Moore) and Charles D. Barr, was born May 16, 1902 in Madison County, Iowa. She departed this life May 7, 1991 at the Community Care Center in Stuart, where she had resided since 1986. She had reached the age of 88 years, 11 months and 21 days.

Dortha graduated from Dexter High School.

On October 30, 1926 she was united in marriage to Lester E. Compton at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. He passed away in 1979.

Dortha had lived in the Dexter, Redfield and Stuart areas all her life and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Dexter.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, sister Inez and brothers Lee, Mel, Earl and Ray.

Many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends mourn her passing.

Funeral services were held at the United Presbyterian Church in Dexter on May 9, 1991 with Rev. Shirley Lockard officiating. Mrs. John Shepherd proved the organ music and accompanied the flute selection by Michelle Belden. Serving as casket bearers were Robert Wilson, Jack Wambold, Marvin Moore, Jim Belden, Norman Bennett and Kenneth Brinton. Interment was in Dexter Cemetery, Dexter, Iowa.
