Jim was born on November 10th, 1950, in Grinnell, IA. He was raised there and spent many of his years farming northwest of Brooklyn. In 1986 he moved to the Des Moines area to attend The American Institute of Business. He was united in marriage to Brenda Lee Davison on April 16th, 1988. He graduated from AIB the following year and started working at Tarbell & Co.

In 1994 he started his career at Iowa Business Growth Company where he eventually became the Senior Vice President of the company. During this time he raised 4 daughters in Wick, Iowa: Cassidy, Caitlin, Kelsey, and Kayla. His family was very important to him and he always made it a priority to spend time with them. In 2016 he retired (kind of J) from Iowa Business Growth Company. The following April he started working part-time at Agriland FS until his death.

He enjoyed farming, gardening, and adding additions on to the house. His favorite music to listen to was southern and bluegrass. He loved the Lord and lived out his faith in every area of his life. He dedicated several years to Nationwide Youth Roundup where he served as the Board President, Camp Manager, and Treasurer. He also made it a priority to create a beautiful and fun environment at the camp so the youth groups from Rising Sun Church of Christ and Indianola Church of Christ could grow in their faith and their relationships with each other while attending NYR.

Survivors include his wife, Brenda DePauw of Wick, IA; his children, Cassidy (Thomas) Fuhrer of Casper, WY, Caitlin DePauw of Omaha, NE, Kelsey (Brendan Reed) DePauw of Thornton, CO, Kayla (Brennen) Flores of Des Moines, IA; four siblings, Janet (Chuck) Gorsch, John (Carol) DePauw, Joel (Rosie) DePauw, and Julie (Joe) Kriegel; and one of his favorite dogs Ferdinand (Ferdy).

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Erma DePauw and 2 of his favorite dogs, Mugsy and Blazer.

Visitation will be held 5 to 8 p.m., Friday, November 17 at Rising Sun Church of Christ where family will be present to greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorials may be given in James’ name to the Nationwide Youth Roundup.
