O. A. Silverthorn was born in Muscatine county, Iowa, August 29, 1846 and died in Greenfield Friday, March 7, 1925 aged 78 years, 7 months and 8 days. He was united in marriage to Sarah M. Silverthorn April 10, 1866 who died at their home here June 1, 1923. To this union were born four children: Alvin D., who passed away at his home in Council Bluffs, December 12, 1923, Mrs. Mabel Jones of Des Moines, Mrs. Olive G. Nichols of Fontanelle, and Ernest who departed this life February 27, 1912.

He came from Muscatine to Madison county living on a farm for six years, when he moved to Adair county, purchasing a farm in Grand River township. The family lived there until 1917, when Mr. and Mrs. Silverthorn moved to Greenfield, where he has since resided.

Mr. Silverthorn leaves to mourn their loss, his two daughters, Mrs. Jones and Mrs. Nichols; five grandchildren, J. O. Silverthorn of Wichita Falls, Texas; J. Calvin Silverthorn of Ottumwa; Audra O. Jones and Mrs. Orval Otten of Des Moines; Rev. Nichols of Fontanelle, and five great grandchildren, Ernest, Bobby and Betty Silverthorn of Ottumwa and Arthur and Virgil Nichols of Fontanelle. He also leaves two brothers, O. D. of Macksburg and E. R. Silverthorn of Hebron.

A funeral service was conducted from the M. E. church of which he was a member, on Sunday at 2:30 p.m. by his pastor, Rev. W. H. Cable and interment was made in the Greenfield cemetery. Mr. Silverthorn died in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Mote Crawford, where he has made his home since the death of his wife.

Relatives from a distance, who attended the funeral were Mrs. A. D. Silverthorn and son, Calvin, and family of Ottumwa, and Mr. and Mrs. Ora Hill of Guthrie Center.
