Page 4, Columns 3 & 4Edward James “Jim” Fuller, 73, died Monday, Sept. 8, 2008 at his Stuart home.
Services were held Monday, Sept. 15, 2008 at the Johnson Family Funeral Home in Stuart with Pastor Dean Porter officiating.
Bearers were Rick Killion, Mitch Killion, Lance Killion, Dallas Fox, Steve Fox, Shawn Phippen, Adam James, and Todd Killion. Honorary bearers were Ruby Waltz, Adam Whitmore, Ron HIscocks, Kenny Vanlandingham, Larry Wolfe, Audrey Gomez, Dick Rote, Bonnie Rote, Connie Clark, Frank Clark, and many other family and friends.
Interment was in South Oak Grove Cemetery, Stuart with full military honors.
“Jim” as he was known, was born Oct. 17, 1934 to John and Hattie Duff Fuller in rural Madison County. He attended Audubon High School.
Jim enlisted into the United States Navy when he was 17 years old, during the Korean Conflict. He was stationed on Korean and Vietnam waters throughout this time. Jim served a total of 19 years within the Navy before being honorably discharged. After his discharge, he returned to the Stuart area to make his home.
Jim was united in marriage to Carol Jeannine Haskins on Sept. 12, 1980 in Menlo. He was employed for several years by the Stuart School District within the janitorial department. He also worked at Waltz Inn for nearly 30 years.
Jim was a member of the Stuart American Legion. He and Carol could be found most any nice day at the golf course in Guthrie Center chasing that little white ball over the greens. Their constant companion over the past 10 years was Jenny, their Pomeranian, and especially the past year after Carol’s death. Besides golfing, Jim enjoyed playing cards, fishing, hunting, reading, camping at Meadow Lake, and spending time with all his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, wife Carol on June 1, 2007, one daughter, Tamara Fuller; one sister, Betty Fuller; four brothers, Kenneth, Dale, John and Donald Fuller, and one grandson, Michael Opbroek.
Survivors include his children, Dennis (Margaret) Hochstetler of Glasgow, Scotland, Cindy (Pat) James, Stuart, Bonnie (Dan) Fox, Altoona, Tracy (Leray) Opbroek, Stover, Mo., Kathy (Bill) Gomez, Earlham, Vickie (Kerry) Cochran, Des Moines, Cheryl Fuller, Calif., Vicky Fuller, New Hampshire; two sisters, Wanda Dunning and Shirley Dooley, both of Des Moines; two brothers, Garry Fuller and Tom Fuller, both of Des Moines; 12 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
Johnson Family Funeral Home of Stuart was in charge of arrangements.
