Clayton Foster, son of S. D. and Lunette Foster Delaplain, was born September 4, 1902 in Madison County, Iowa and passed away November 25, 1979 in Des Moines, Iowa after a lingering illness.

When he was 16, he moved with his parents to Greene County, Iowa. In 1926 he started farming in Madison County and continued farming until he retired to Menlo, Iowa in 1956. For eight years he helped with the farming for Charles Varley.

On October 3, 1928 he was united in marriage to Edith Frances Bates of Macksburg, Iowa. This marriage was blessed with two chosen daughters.

Clayton was always an active member in his church for 50 years. At the time of his death he was a member of the Jefferson Center United Methodist Church.

Preceding him in death were an infant son, Jerold Clayton, his parents, two sisters and one niece.

Surviving are his devoted wife of 51 years, his two chosen daughters, Janet Kuster, of Casey, Iowa, and Donna Fredericksen of Des Moines, Iowa; one sister, Bernice Cox, of Perry, Iowa; six grandchildren, one great granddaughter; one niece; two nephews, other relatives and friends.

The Rev. Emmanuel Tabelisma officiated at the funeral service on November 2, 1979 at the Jefferson Center United Methodist Church. Vocal music was provided by the Jefferson Center Ladies Choir accompanied on the organ by Mrs. Daryl Nelson. Mrs. Carl Gilman and Mrs. Gene Livingston assisted with the floral tributes. Serving as casket bearers were Donald Clayton, Charles Varley, Carl Gilman, Carl Brandenburg, Reese Law, and George Shepherd. Interment was in Jefferson Center Cemetery, Adair County, Iowa.
