Cora Agnes Flood, daughter of William and Mary Jones Wallace, was born at Webster, Madison County, Iowa, January 1864, and passed away Saturday morning, Jan. 21, 1961 at the Adair County Memorial hospital in Greenfield, Iowa where she had been taken the day before, from the Acker Nursing Home, having been a patient there since the first of last October.

Mrs. Flood had attained the age of 97 years, and 14 days.

Mrs. Flood grew to womanhood in Iowa, and was baptized in the United Brethren faith and church at Anita, Iowa. She also taught school for some time, before her marriage to Charles Hayward, on November 7, 1884.

One daughter, now Mrs. Christie Wilson of Burr Oak, Kans., was born to this union. Mr. Hayward passed away in the early 90’s. Then on October 15, 1894, she was united in marriage with Harry L. Flood at Mankato, Kans.

Two children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Flood: a son Charles who now lives at Limon, Colo., and a daughter, Josie, now Mrs. Clarence Chase of Menlo, Iowa. For nearly the past 20 years, Mrs. Flood has lived with her daughter Josie, and son-in-law, Clarence Chase, where she was tenderly cared for, and for the past two years was bedfast, needing much care, which was so unselfishly given by both Josie and Clarence.

The song, “Cast Thy Bread Upon The Waters, And It Will Return To You”, has been exemplified with Mrs. Flood, for she was most kind during her active life, in helping any one in need, and especially in sickness. She was a devoted woman, not only to her family, but to her neighbors and friends.

In addition to those named, Mrs. Flood is survived by 10 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren. Three stepchildren, Mrs. Gertrude Simmons, Mrs. Edna Chase, and Frank Flood have preceded her in death. During the life of Mr. Flood, the family lived near Lebanon, Kans.

All who knew Mrs. Flood, will praise her for her years of kindly deeds.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, Jan. 24 from the Bickford-Murray Funeral Home at Greenfield with the Rev. A. R. Weed officiating. Music was presented by Mr. and Mrs. Paul Bickford and Mrs. Dora Nelson. Casketbearers were Art Sackett, Hiram Sackett, Stewart Sackett, Arley Nelson, Claire Johnson and William Lenhart. Interment was in Evergreen cemetery at Anita.
