Page 6, Column 6Christian Ivan McGinnis, son of Christian Theodore and Martha Moore McGinnis, was born November 21, 1894 in Madison County, Iowa and passed away July 12, 1974 at the Dexter Hospital, Dexter, Iowa.
On September 29, 1919 he was united in marriage to Pearl Richmond in Stuart, Iowa.
At an early age, he united with the Methodist Church in Kansas. He grew up in Kansas and enlisted in the Marines in 1918, serving in the 2nd Division in World War I.
After the war, he settled in Stuart where he was engaged in the grocery business.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters.
Survivors include his wife, Pearl, of Stuart two daughters, Mrs. Marie Berry, Stuart, and Mrs. Mary Swanson, Des Moines; five grandchildren, Mary Pearl Williamson, Hannibal, Missouri; Donna Marie Miller, Bondurant, Iowa; Richard Berry, Harlan, Iowa; Carl Swanson of the U. S. Navy; Janet Berry, Stuart, Iowa; 2 great grandchildren, Evan Williamson and Kristen Marie Miller; two brothers, Ernest McGinnis and Arthur McGinnis, both of Clinton, Oklahoma; four sisters, Lila Butler, Spokane, Washington; Vema Haght, Mutual, Oklahoma; Effie Whitsitt, Mutual, Oklahoma, and Violet Lewis, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held Sunday, July 14, 1974 at 2:00 p.m. at the First Congregational Church in Stuart, Iowa with Reverend George Thurman officiating. Organ music was provided by Miss Gloria Thurman, and Mrs. Carl Strauser and Mrs. A. W. Russom assisted with the floral tributes. Serving as casket bearers were Fred Draman, Carl Strauser, Dr. H. H. Stevens, Raymond McKee, Ray Jontz and Eugene Jirak. Interment was held at the South Oak Grove Cemetery in Stuart.
