Page 4, Columns 4 & 5Georgina Lynette, third child of Robert Lyle and Henrietta Clark Thompson was born in Madison county, Iowa, September 2, 1874 and passed away February 8, 1959 at Broadlawns hospital in Des Moines at the age of 84 years, five months and six days.
Her childhood was spent on a farm in the community of Stone school north of Winterset. After reaching womanhood she moved with her family to Dexter, Iowa where she attended the Dexter Normal School.
At the turn of the century the family moved to Stuart where she met and was married to Orren Franklin Godwin. Two children were born to this union, Esther, now Mrs. Charles Parkison and a son, Everett Franklin, both of Des Moines.
Since her husband’s death in 1930 she has lived in Des Moines, being near her children.
Gina, as she was called, was raised in the United Presbyterian faith until she moved to Stuart. While living there she attended the Friends church, being a Sunday School teacher and the clerk of the monthly meeting for many years. During her residence in Des Moines she was a follower of the Unity Church of Christianity until the advancement of years made her attendance irregular. The teaching of Christ she cherished and upon her death bed she prayed time and again to her Master for help.
She was a member of the Valley Junction Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star.
While preparing her noonday meal, Friday, February 6, her apron caught fire. The fire spread in her apartment. Needing help she went to the porch where she fell unnoticed until the flames and smoke from the building attracted attention. When found she was so severely burned that the finest of hospital care was losing a battle.
Her Maker had called. She passed on to Him Sunday morning at 2:00 o’clock.
Besides her two children, she leaves five grandchildren and four great grandchildren; one brother, Henry Thompson of Johnson, Kans.; four sisters, Mrs. Nancy Craven, Dexter; Mrs. Amanda May, La Junta, Colo.; Mrs. Fonda Saylor, Stuart and Mrs. Eunice Sanderson, Des Moines. Also many loyal and loving nieces and nephews who gave time and condolence during her last illness, and many fine friends and neighbors.
Funeral services were held from the Bufkin Funeral Home Wednesday afternoon, Feb 11 with Rev. Robert Martin officiating. Music was presented by Robin Lawson, organist. Casketbearers were Gen Price, Ray Cave, Raymond Tyson, Harry Hedges, Art Hanner and Adrian Low.
Interment was in the Stuart cemetery.
