March 25, 1929 - October 8, 2017Phillip Bussanmas of Winterset, died Sunday, October 8, 2017, at the Madison County Memorial Hospital in Winterset. He was 88.
A visitation with family present to receive friends will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 11, at Ochiltree Funeral Service in Winterset, with a Prayer Service to follow beginning at 8:00 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, October 12, at the Church of the Assumption in Churchville, with burial to follow in the Calvary Cemetery, Churchville.
Memorials may be directed to the NAMI Greater Des Moines or the Madison County Memorial Hospital in Winterset.
Phillip Sylvester Bussanmas, son of James and Aletha (Leach) Bussanmas, was born March 25, 1929, in Wick. He graduated from Martensdale St. Mary’s High School in 1948 and his marriage to Catherine Wood took place on November 23, 1949, at the Church of the Assumption in Churchville.
Phil and his brother Jim founded and co-owned Bussanmas Tire (a Goodyear tire store) and ran bulk trucks delivering gas for Conoco and DX. Phil also founded Bussanmas Incorporated, selling farm machinery and offering rental storage. His businesses were in operation for more than 40 years in Winterset and the surrounding area. He was honored to have been selected to Dealer Council positions by both Goodyear and the New Holland Company.
Phil was a member of the Church of the Assumption in Churchville and he was active in the Democratic Party. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, hunting and camping. Above all else, he loved his family and cherished time spent with them.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 67 years, Catherine Bussanmas of Winterset, his children, Steven (Gayle) Bussanmas of Lititz, PA, Debra (Gordon ‘Chip’) Darling of Winterset, Diane (John) Lewis of Mendota Heights, MN, eight grandchildren, Rachel (George) Mountis, Phillip Bussanmas, Trevor (Maryam) Darling, Lindsay Darling, Nathan Darling, Hannah Lewis, Jenna Lewis and Thomas Lewis; three great grandchildren, Michael Alexander Mountis, Mason Steven Mountis and Leo Phillip Mountis; siblings, Joan Bailiff of Wick, Jack (Teresa) Bussanmas of Norwalk, Jerry (Alice) Bussanmas of Bevington, Otto (Maxine) Bussanmas of Bevington, extended family and a host of friends.
He was preceded in death by his son, Daniel Bussanmas, parents, James and Aletha Bussanmas and a brother, James Bussanmas.
