Sherman David, son of Rilla Goldman and Edward Williams, was born in Wabash County, Illinois on June 5, 1897 and passed away suddenly at his home on May 7, 1975.

He attended country school in Madison county, Iowa and also schools in Winterset and Dexter. On February 12, 1918 he was united in marriage to Edith Pearl Denning and four sons were born to this union. She preceded him in death on July 3, 1947. On December 28, 1948 he was married to Faye Gillespie and they have lived in Lincoln township for 26 years.

Sherm was engaged in farming and was quite active in community affairs. For 5 years he served on the Adair County Review Board and was clerk for Lincoln township for 20 years. He was a member of the Mount Vernon Methodist Church in rural Stuart.

Preceding him in death were his parents and one brother, Byrd. He is survived by his wife, Faye, four sons: Warren E., Hayden F., and Donald E., of Stuart, Iowa and Elbert D. of Menlo, Iowa; a stepdaughter, Shirley Haines; two sisters, Golda Fleming of Menlo, Iowa and Mary Wilson of Dexter, Iowa; and two brothers, John of Dexter, Iowa and Clark of Stuart, Iowa; seven grandchildren and one great grandchild, other relatives and friends.

Rev. Michael Biklen officiated at the memorial service on Saturday, May 10, 1975 at the United Methodist Church in Stuart. Vocal music was provided by Robert Lawson, accompanied on the organ by Mrs. Paul Wilson. Flower attendants were Mr. and Mrs. Garold Bochart and Mrs. Ethel Bunce.

Serving as casket bearers were: Albert Hawthorne, Edwin Eversull, Earl Gray, John Wasson, Warren Carter and Arthur Mapes. Interment was in the South Oak Grove Cemetery in Stuart, Iowa.
