Funeral services for John G. Kale were held Thursday afternoon from the Meek chapel, Rev. R. W. Richards officiating. Mrs. C. A. Harpster, Miss Olivene Gregg, S. D. Moser, Chester Jones, accompanied by Mrs. A. H. Herman, sang, "It Is Well With My Soul," "Good Night Here, Good Morning There." Body bearers were Deaver Lambert, Cloyd Rutland, Lester Hoar, Lou Robinson, Lloyd McIntyre, Leslie Gregg.

John Grant Kale son of Alfred, Sarah Kale, was born on March 11, 1870, near Hiawatha, Ks. When a young child, he went with his parents to Winterset, Ia., where they remained for several years, returning to Brown county in his early youth.

He was converted in his young manhood, was always a leader in community activities. Mr. Kale, spent a very active, useful life. He taught school a number of years, later becoming manager of Mutual Telephone Co., of Hiawatha, where he served for 18 years. He also ran a threshing machine over a large territory. In 1920 he moved to his farm in Claytonville neighborhood, where he remained the rest of his life. He was well known for his generosity to all children. He went to a great deal of work, expense, to provide a park, playground on his farm for public enjoyment.

He was united in marriage October 1, 1898, to Lottie L. Montanye, who survives. To this union were born 1 daughter, who died in infancy, 4 sons, Robin of Willis, Wayne of Hiawatha, Fred of Topeka, Dale who is serving in armed forces. There are 5 grandsons.
