Resident of Osceola For Fifty Years; Funeral Held Sunday
Mrs. Malvern M. Hawk, 86-year old resident of Osceola for half a century, died Friday at the Clarke county hospital. She had been in failing health for a time.
Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at the Webster Funeral Home with Rev. Azel L. Smith, pastor of the First Methodist church, officiating. Burial was in Maple Hill cemetery.
The daughter of Benton and Laura Foreman Jones, she was born Oct. 31, 1872, in Clarke county. She moved with her parents to Madison county where she attended school. For the past 50 years she had made her home in Osceola.
In 1891 she became the bride of Clint Hargis in Madison county and seven children were born to that union. He preceded her in death.
At Adel in 1914, she was united in marriage with William O. Hawk, who preceded her in death.
Surviving are four daughters, Mrs. Ernie Reed of Osceola, Mrs. A. F. Reed of Carroll, Mrs. Earl Moon of Denver, Colo., and Mrs. Alice Webster of Osceola; two sons, Niles J. Hargis of Knoxville and Don L. Hargis of West Burlington; four grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren; five sisters, Susie Gracey of Indianola, Hester Muselman of Osceola, Hazel Jones of Des Moines and Ethyl Henthorn of Hollywood, Calif., and one brother, Niles, of Boone.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, one daughter, Arline, and a brother and sister.
