ROSE V. ALLEN

Rose V. Allen, daughter of James V. And Cora Hoisington Boatwright, was born May 28, 1909, in Polk county and died Nov. 3, 1994, at Greater Community Hospital in Creston. She was 85.

She married Bernard “Barney” Allen on June 2, 1927, at Winterset. The couple became the parents of three daughters and three sons.

Mrs. Allen had lived in Des Moines and Madison County until moving to Arizona in 1962. She returned to Murray in 1970.

Mrs. Allen was a member of the Murray Baptist Church and the Church Missionary society.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Oct. 23, 1987; a son Bernard Melvin Allen in 1930; two grandsons; a granddaughter; a great-grandson; three brothers and three sisters.

Mrs. Allen is survived by three daughters, Dorothy Kelley and her husband, Theodore Kelley, of golden, Mo., Rosalie Hampton and her husband, Ronald Hampton, of Murray and Sue Oglesbee and her husband, Mack Oglesbee, of Mercer, Mo.; two sons, Darrell Allen and his wife, Marlys Allen, of Urbandale and Jack Allen and his wife, Vivian Allen, of Murray; 28 grandchildren; 52 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Agnes Romands of Butte, Mont. and a brother, William R. Boatwright of Tennessee.

Services for Mrs. Allen were Nov. 7, at the Murray Baptist church with Pastor Duane R. Davis officiating. Organist Pennie Gonseth accompanied Raymond Johnston as he sang hymns Amazing Grace, Safe in the Arms of Jesus and Some Golden Daybreak. A Tribute to Mom was given by Vivian Allen and a Tribute to Grandma was given by Renda Baker. The scripture was read by Jack Allen and a prayer by Ben Westfall.

Casket bearers were Doug Allen, Gregg Allen, Scott Hampton, Mark Price, Randy Turner and Russ Turner. Burial was in the Winterset Cemetery with Stroud Lindsay Golden Rule Funeral Home of Afton in charge of arrangements.
