Luana McAllister

Luana M. McAllister, 84, of Van Meter, died Friday, September 8, 2017 at HCI Kavanagh House in Des Moines.

Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m Saturday, September 16 at Trinity Lutheran Church, 1195 Prairieview Ave., Van Meter with burial at the Union Chapel Cemetery , 2761 105th St., Van Meter. Family will greet friends at the church from 10:00 a.m. until noon.

Luana was born to Jesse James and Agnes Darling (Smith) Jubell on May 31, 1933 in Emmetsburg, IA. She graduated from Estherville High School in 1951. She was a homemaker for many years before working for Employers Mutual Insurance as a coder. Later she worked at Ardan department store as an accountant.

Before her allergies became overwhelming, Luana liked to garden, golf and roller skate. She was an exceptional bowler with several perfect games and high series trophies. She made ceramics as a hobby that eventually turned into a home business called LuONa Ceramics and Gifts. She sold most of her crafts at the Madison County Covered Bridge Festival over a 30 year period.

Luana is survived by her husband Francis McAllister; daughter Leanne Dally; sons Doug Dally and Mark McAllister; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; brothers Larry, Scott and Tom Jubell; and sister Melissa Jubell.

Luana was preceded in death by her parents; brothers Robert and John Jubell.
