Page 5, Column 1Aged Soldiers Home Resident Dies Sunday
Mrs. Mary Oriola Huston, 79, a member of the Iowa Soldiers home since Jan. 2, 1943, died at the home hospital Sunday at 6 a.m. Mrs. Huston had not been in good health for years. Death was due to a complication of ailments.
She was the widow of Zachariah T. Huston, who served in the civil war in the 23d and 29th Iowa infantry regiments. He enlisted Jan. 4, 1864, and was discharged at New Orleans, La., Aug. 10, 1865.
A native of Winterset, where she was born Nov. 12, 1867. Mr. and Mrs. Huston were married there Dec. 13, 1899. Her husband’s death occurred in West Des Moines July 30, 1934. Afterwards, before coming to the soldiers home, Mrs. Huston had lived in West Des Moines with her son, Taylor W. Huston, a member of the state conservation commission staff for many years prior to his entry into war service. The son is the only survivor and now lived in St. Paul, Minn.
The body was taken to West Des Moines for services and burial.
