Perry, Ia, formerly Dexter,Ia

Frederick Henry Clausen, 92, of Perry formerly of Dexter, Iowa passed away August 20, 2017 at the Perry Lutheran Home. Visitation will be held from 9:30 to 10:30 A.M. Friday, August 25, 2017 at the Zion Lutheran Church in Dexter. Funeral services will follow at 10:30 A.M. at the Church. Burial with full Military Honors will follow the service in the Dexter Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Lutheran Ladies Aide and may be sent in care of Johnson Family Funeral Home. (Professional Arrangements: Johnson Family Funeral Home & Crematory – Dexter Chapel).

Frederick was born February 11, 1925 in Crown Point, Indiana and out of love was adopted by Ferdinand “Buck” Dietrich and Cora Belle (Drake) Clausen. He grew up on the family farm southeast of Dexter and attended the Penn #5 Rural Grade School and graduated from Dexter High School with the class of 1941.

After graduating, Frederick enlisted into the United States Navy. During this time, he attended Yeoman School and was stationed aboard the USS Berrien. The USS Berrien was stationed within the Pacific during WWII and took part in many battles during its time at sea. Frederick was honorably discharged on May 23, 1946.

He had gone to Chillicothe Business College in Chillicothe, Missouri also to the University of Iowa. Having worked as a clerk, draftsmen and tool designer. Places he lived were: Minneapolis, Minnesota; Phoenix, Arizona; San Diego, California; and Des Moines, Iowa. After working around the United States, he moved to the family farm in 1959 and farmed for about 18 years. After retiring from farming he took care of his mother and several other widows.

Frederick was a lifelong member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Dexter where he was baptized on October 4, 1925 and confirmed on July 16, 1939. Throughout the years, he served as the church secretary and was very active in the Lutheran Layman’s League. Frederick enjoyed playing cards, reading, attending church suppers, traveling with his mother, and spending time with family and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, F.D. and Cora Clausen and his sister, Joanne Blaisdell.

Frederick is survived by 5 nieces and nephews and numerous cousins and friends all of whom will miss him greatly.
