Page 3, Column 4Death of Mrs. R. Guye
Mrs. R. Guye died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Will Farrell, Thursday, June 20. Funeral services were held at the Christian church Sunday afternoon at 2:00 o’clock, Rev. Tarrants, of Des Moines, who was supplying the place of the regular pastor, Rev. Adair, preaching the sermon. She leaves a husband and four children.
Samantha Alice Clearwater was born in Marion county, Iowa, October 26, 1878. She was married to R. Guye at Winterset, Iowa, June 15, 1876. Four children and two girls were born to them, all of whom are alive and were present at the funeral.
Mr. Guye and family came to Stuart twelve years ago, residing here for eight years when they removed to South Dakota. Last November, Mrs. Guye was taken sick with typhoid fever and four weeks ago she was brought to Stuart, a change of climate being advised by her physician. Her condition showed no improvement, notwithstanding the change in climate and she gradually weakened until the end came.
Transcriber’s note: Typed as printed in the Stuart Herald. Madison county, Iowa marriage records show that Riley Guye and Alice Clearwater were married August 22, 1877, which would make her birth date not correct, either. Gravestone at South Oak Grove in Stuart, Iowa shows her birthdate as October 26, 1859.
