Richard Lee Harris, 74, passed away at his home in Dexter on Friday, October 26, 2012. Memorial service tribute was held Tuesday, October 30, 2012 at First Presbyterian Church in Dexter with Reverend David Kincaide officiating. Organist was Audrey Wells. Music included a congregational hymns, “How Great Thou Art,” and “Amazing Grace” and “In The Garden” by Elvis Presley.

Burial will be in Penn Center Cemetery, rural Earlham, at a later date.

Richard was born October 11, 1938 in Carroll to Orval and Alma (Houdashell) Harris. He spent his young years growing up in Davenport before moving to Stuart as a teenager.

When he moved to Stuart, he gained employment at the Truck Haven where he met Carolyn Bradshaw. He married Carolyn in Stuart on May 20, 1972. This marriage blessed them with one daughter, LeeAnn Harris.

He continued his working career as a dietary food supervisor at the Dallas County Care Center in Adel for over 20 years, and opened a bait and tackle shop in Dexter for 24 years.

Richard was a very caring individual. He was an elder at First Presbyterian Church in Dexter, and volunteered his time giving vision tests for children through the Lions Organization. He enjoyed fishing, bird watching, socializing, collecting glass plates, and cooking. Most of all, he loved his family dearly.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two step-brothers, grandparents, and other relatives.

Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Harris of Dexter, daughter, LeeAnn Harris of Dexter; grandchildren, Christopher Dobsch and Allison Dobsch of Dexter; sister, Teresa (James) Langston of Stuart; nephews, Rick (Ann) Hudson of Stuart and Johnny Hudson of Des Moines; several step-siblings, and other family members.

Professional services entrusted to Johnson Family Funeral Home-Dexter Chapel.
