Hazel Williams, Winterset
December 22, 1924 - July 26, 2017

Hazel Williams, 92, of Winterset, died Wednesday, July 26, 2017, at her home in Winterset.

A visitation will be held from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m., Saturday, August 12, at Ochiltree Funeral Service in Winterset, where a memorial service will begin at 11:00 a.m. Memorials may be directed to the family for a later designation.

Hazel Winifred Scott, the daughter of Harry and Vida (Perso) Scott, was born at home on December 22, 1924 in Dalton, Nebraska. She graduated from Weldon High School in 1942, where she was a talented athlete participating in basketball and track. Hazel was united in marriage with Gerald Williams on April 10, 1944, in Osceola.

Hazel worked for Union State Bank for a time and later worked for Employers Mutual Life Insurance before retiring in 1979. She was a member of a bridge club, square dancing club and bowling league. In her younger years she enjoyed the thrill of traveling with Gerald on their motorcycle and later letting her grandchildren give her rides on the jet ski. Hazel and Gerald enjoyed camping with the family especially when the grandchildren came along. She absolutely loved to dance and also enjoyed reading, walking, and doing puzzles. Hazel was a snowbird, spending many winters in Arizona. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren and cherished any time spent with family and friends.

Hazel is survived by her three children, Edward (Marilyn) Williams of Trenton, MI; Robert (Donna) Williams of Norwalk; Linda (Dennis) Eckles of Winterset; brother, Raymond (Helen) Scott of Owatonna, MN; sister, Donna (Richard) Copeland of Clive; seven grandchildren, Julie (Bill) Louth, Gary (Emily) Williams, Shawn (Shannon) Williams, Todd (Shelley) Williams, Jennifer (Steve) Johnson, Chance (Chris) Eckles, and Clint (Nicole) Eckles; eleven great-grandchildren; extended family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Gerald in 2004; brothers, Charles, Erwin, and Harry Scott; sisters, Virginia Hinman, Betty Johnson, and Barbara Dieffenbaugh.
