James Philip, son of John and Anna Vowles Lynch, was born October 25, 1887 near Penn Center in Madison County, Iowa and passed away April 9, 1979 at the Colonial Manor in Baxter, Iowa at the age of 91 years.

On August 26, 1921 he was united in marriage to Zula Poling and three children were born to this union.

Most of their married life was spent farming in the Stuart and Menlo area. In 1950 he moved to Newton, Iowa, where he was employed as a night watchman for the Vernon Company and also as caretaker at the Maytag Park and Newton County Club.

James retired in 1963 at the age of 75, when he moved to Colfax to make his home until 1974 when he entered the Colonial Manor in Baxter due to ill health.

James served his country in World War I and was a member of the Glover-Buttler American Legion Post #511.

Preceding him in death was his wife Zula and his parents, two brothers Oliver and Edward, and one sister Olive.

Surviving are his children Duane Lynch of Sioux City, Max Lynch of Runnells, and Mrs. Wayne (Beverly) Hill of Colfax, 10 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, other relatives and friends.

Memorial services were held Wednesday, April 11, 1979 at the Link Funeral Home in Stuart with the Rev. Robert Stone officiating. Music was provided by Merrill Womach. Serving as casket bearers were Milton Brainerd, James Cornelia, Richard Lindblom, Clel Baudler, Gary Swanson and Wendell Brockman. Military graveside services were conducted by the Buttler-Glover American Legion Post #511 in Rosehill cemetery at Menlo, Iowa.
