John Paul Jones was born April 3, 1917, the son of John Watts Jones and Bertha Norton Jones in Madison Co. Iowa. He departed this life June 12, 2017 at the age of 100 years 2 months and 9 days.
He was united in marriage on January 29, 1939 to Hallie Viola Bice. To this union three daughters and two sons were born. On January 24, 2004 they celebrated 65 years of marriage.
Paul and Hallie were farmers all of their lives. They planted row crops in Iowa and when they moved to Missouri in 1980 they raised cattle and farmed hay. In 2016 Paul was awarded the prestigious Cattleman's Association Pioneer Award.
He was a very active member of the Christian Church both here and in Iowa. He served many many years in various positions, including elder and deacon. He enjoyed his cattle, and working in the fields with his tractors, and time with friends and family. (He was an active bowler, even at 100 years old.) He was 50+ year member of the Order of the Masonic Lodge. Paul's sense of humor and orneriness will be missed by all.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Hallie, 2 sons John R. Jones and Carl E. Jones, a daughter Geraldine A. Stroud, 1 brother and 2 sisters.
Survivors include 2 daugthers, Bernadine and husband Richard Quinn, McHenry, Ill. and Sheryl and husband David Shields, Dallas Center, IA, 14 grandchildren and many many great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends who will all miss him.
Local Funeral Services will be held Saturday, June 17th at 10 A.M. at High Prairie Christian Church. Visitation will be Friday evening at the Montgomery-Viets Chapel from 6-8 P.M. Funeral Services in Iowa will be Monday, June 19th at 10 A.M. in the First Christian Church, Woodward, Iowa, with burial following in the Woodward Cemetery and Visitation will be an hour beforehand. Services are under the direction of the Montgomery-Viets Funeral Home of Buffalo, MO..
