ROBERT BREEDING DIES AFTER SURGERY

Robert Breeding, of Ft. Madison, member of a well-known Madison county family, died Tuesday, Sept. 28, at University hospital in Iowa City, following major surgery.

Mr. Breeding was a former sheriff of Madison county. He was born and spent his early life in this community, and during World War I served in France as a member of Winterset’s Company A, 168th Infantry regiment Rainbow division.

His nearest surviving relatives in this community are his sisters, Mrs. Will McClure and Mrs. Rella Schoenenberger.

SERVICES FOR ROBERT BREEDING

Funeral services were held last Friday at Ft. Madison for Robert A. Breeding, formerly of Winterset, whose death had occurred the preceding Tuesday at Veteran’s hospital in Iowa City.

The services were held from the Barr Memorial chapel, with the Rev. James Bulkema officiating. Burial was made in the Soldier’s circle at Oakland cemetery in Ft. Madison, with military rites at the grave.

Mr. Breeding was 70 years of age at his death. A son of James and Fannie O’Dell Breeding, he was born at Winterset Nov. 4, 1894. He served with Winterset’s Company A, 168th Infantry regiment in France during World War I, and after returning to Winterset served as sheriff of Madison county. He moved to Ft. Madison 32 years ago. He was a retired employee of the Union Electric company there.

He had also served in the U. S. armed forces during World War II. He was a member of the American Legion, Amvets, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and Disabled Veterans,

He is survived by his wife, the former Mary Bertrand, to whom he was married in 1919. He also leaves two sons Robert Breeding Jr., of Manhatten Beach, Calif., and Rex Breeding of Ft. Madison; three daughters, Mrs. James Sanders of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Mrs. Boyd Deitrich of Dallas City, and Mrs. Walter Abendroth of Ft. Madison; two sisters, Mrs. Rella Schoenenberger and Mrs. Nelle McClure, both of Winterset; and 12 grandchildren.
