Roberta “Bert” Jean (Penn) Jacobe was born in Madison County, Iowa on December 4, 1932 to William H. and Darlene M. (Price) Penn. She entered Heaven’s gates on May 31, 2017.
She was a loving mother and a well known grandmother figure to many throughout the community. Bert always found enjoyment in keeping busy and helping out others. She was always known to have a cup of coffee and cookies available for anyone who stopped by. She followed her husband, Delbert, many years when he worked for Reed Brothers, Inc. and often worked right beside him. She worked for the Winterset Community School District for several years driving the school bus and working in the elementary lunchroom.
In her free time she enjoyed taking trips with Delbert on the motorcycle, putting many puzzles together, crocheting dresses for dolls, growing an extensive flower garden, and taking her dogs on trips all over Madison County.
Roberta is survived by her daughter, Cecelia (Carroll) Shutt; sons, Earl Dean (Karen) Jacobe and William (Jenny) Jacobe; adopted granddaughter, Teresa (Dean) Conrad; 15 grandchildren (all of which adored her); 1 step grandson; 15 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren; and her brother, William Penn. She was preceded in death by her parents, William H. and Darlene M. Penn; loving husband, Delbert Jacobe; infant daughter, Sharon Jacobe; and her grandson, Christopher Jacobe.
Her family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to Betsy Breeding, who often helped care for Bert and was like a daughter to her, and to her neighbors who went above and beyond to help watch over her. Her family would also like to thank the Madison County Memorial Hospital, Hospice of Central Iowa, and West Bridge Care and Rehabilitation for all their wonderful care.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 PM on Saturday, June 10, 2017, at McCalley-Collins Funeral Home in Winterset. A prayer service will follow at 4 PM with Pastor Terry Kerr officiating. A private family burial will follow at Union Cemetery in Clarke County, Iowa.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to her family for a future designation.
