Infant Daughter of Wm. Marquardt of Jefferson Township, is the Victim
The peaceful farm home of William Marquardt was the scene of a tragic death last Thursday, his three year old daughter being the victim. She with her older sister and brother, a boy about eight years old, took a lunch to the field where their father was at work. We understand that the father gave the boy some matches and instructed him to set fire to a slough on his way back to the house. The boy did so and in some manner the little girl got into the flames. Her clothing was soon a mass of fire, and she received burns that caused her death in a very short time. Her brother made heroic efforts to tear the burning clothes from her, but his efforts were in vain. Funeral services were held Saturday and interment made at the cemetery of the Jefferson Lutheran church.

A subscriber to the Madisonian calls our attention to an error in the report of the sad death of the Marquardt child, which was reported last week and we cheerfully make it.
William Marquardt of Jefferson township, whose three year old child was buried a week ago, wishes to make a correction of the statements made in the last issue. He states that he set fire to the stock field himself, that the children were twenty rods away playing at jumping over a ditch and as he feared they would fall in the water he called to them to go home. On their way home they passed on the wrong side of the fire. He is saddened to have it erroneously reported that he gave matches to the children with orders to fire a slough.
