JULY 14, 1931 - MAY 18, 2017

A Celebration of Life Service for Robert Dean Reynolds, 85, who passed away Thursday, May 18, 2017 in Indianola, will be held 3 p.m. Sunday, May 21 at Overton Funeral Home in Indianola. Visitation will be held two hours prior to service from 1 to 3 p.m. at Overtons. Burial of cremains will be held in the New Virginia Cemetery with military rites.

Robert “Bob” was born in Osceola, IA on July 14, 1931 to Elbert and Edith Reynolds. He grew up on farms in the New Virginia area. Bob was drafted into the Army in April of 1952 and served in Okinawa. He was honorably discharged in April of 1954. He was very proud of his service to his country.

He was united in marriage to Ferna Joyce Worm on April 27, 1958. Following their marriage they moved to the Beardsley Farm southeast of New Virginia where they lived until retirement. They raised two boys there and instilled a love of agriculture in both of them.

He was very active in the community. Bob was a lifelong member of the New Virginia United Methodist Church serving in many capacities from youth group leader to board member. He was a 55 year member of the New Virginia Lions Club and also a member of the American Legion Post # 281. Bob also served as President of the Virginia Manor Senior Citizen Housing Corporation for over 40 years.

He was also very proud of his service to the youth by being a member of the Interstate 35 School Board for 12 years and the Area 11 Education Agency Board of Directors for 9 years. His great joy was spending time with family and watching the grandkids and great grandkids grow up.

Bob is survived by his wife, Joyce Reynolds; sons, Dan (Ranee) Reynolds, Martin (Jo) Reynolds; grandchildren, Clayton (Tonya) Reynolds, Adam (Sarah) Reynolds, Heidi (Nathan) Gruis, Blake Reynolds, Allison (Dillon) Cunningham and Brandon Reynolds and great grandchildren, Cole, Ava, Ty and Tillie Reynolds and baby Gruis (July 2017) and Dayton and Dominic Robert Cunningham. He was preceded in death by his parents, Elbert and Edith Reynolds and a son Roger at birth.

Memorials may be given to the New Virginia United Methodist Church or to the New Virginia American Legion for a veteran’s memorial in the New Virginia Cemetery.
