He moved from Ohio when a small boy to Madison county, Iowa, where he has spent the most of his life. He was married to Mary Catherine Secrease March 3, 1873. To this union were born seven children, four daughters and three sons. The mother, one daughter, and one son preceded the father to the other life.

He married Eliza Shaw September 27, 1917. About three years ago he moved to Osceola and has since made his home here. He has held to the Christian faith for at least 35 years, and in his last days his thoughts were of God and Christian service.

Short funeral services were held at his home on North Lincoln street, Friday, April 20, 1923, by Rev. Lombard of Osceola, with the expectations of having a funeral service conducted by Rev. White of Winterset in the near future. Interment made in Fields cemetery.
