Death of Fred Edwards

Fred Edwards, the eleven year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Earl Edwards, of Humpsville, Missouri, was struck by lightning, Tuesday morning, and killed. His grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Edwards of Lincoln township, received the message, Tuesday afternoon, and Gaylord Edwards, an uncle, left Wednesday noon for Humpsville, but no further particulars are known.

Fred was born in Rolette, North Dakota, and six years ago, his parents moved to Madison county. At that time the little fellow attended the public schools. In 1923 the family moved to Missouri, where they have since resided. Fred is survived by his parents, one brother, Dale, who is eight years old, and a sister, Valda Edwards, who resides in Astoria, Oregon.

Frederick Edwards, whose death was reported in last week’s Madisonian was killed by a bolt of lightning about 8:30 o’clock, Tuesday, April 12th. He was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Earl Edwards of Huntsville, Missouri. Earl Edwards, with his brother, Marion, and the little boy had gone to a meadow near the house to drive up a bunch of sheep to shelter from the approaching storm and rain, when the accident happened. The bolt struck, and when the men turned to look for the boy, they found him dead with his clothes badly torn; the shoe and rubber on his right foot was torn off. Earl Edwards was stunned, but not seriously injured.

Frederick was eleven years old on the 27th of March, and had celebrated by having a few friends in. He is survived by his parents, and one brother, Dale, and a half sister, Valda Edwards of Astoria, Oregon. Besides, there are his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Edwards of Winterset, and Mr. Hall of Ogdensburg, N. Y., and a number of uncles, aunts, and cousins, both in Rolette, North Dakota, where he was born and at Winterset.

Funeral services were held at the M.E. church in Huntsville and the little boy was tenderly laid to rest in the Huntsville cemetery. Six boy friends acted as pall bearers, and six little girls were flower girls.
