Donald A. Bolton, 84, of Winterset, died Monday, March 20, 2017, at West Bridge Care and Rehab in Winterset.

A visitation will be held from 2 to 8 p.m., Thursday, March 23, at Ochiltree Funeral Service in Winterset where the family will be present to receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m.

A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, March 24, at Ochiltree Funeral Service, with burial to follow in the Winterset Cemetery.

Memorials may be directed to the family for a later designation.

Donald Arthur Bolton, the son of William and Clara (Prewitt) Bolton, was born February 27, 1933, in Adair County, Iowa. He graduated from Fontanelle High School in 1950 went on to attend the Commercial Extension Business College in Omaha. His marriage to Shirley Hughes took place on June 1, 1952, at the Highland Methodist Church in Fontanelle, Iowa.

Don farmed for a time and later found an interest in banking; serving 50 years in the banking industry. He attended the American Institute of Banking, Graduate School of Banking at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, National Graduate Trust School at Northwestern University-Evanston, and Iowa Reality Real Estate School. During his extensive working career, he was a field auditor for the State Income Tax Division, was an officer and director for the Union State Bank and worked in sales for Iowa Realty.

Don was a member and served as president of the Winterset Rotary Club, treasurer of the Winterset School Board, president of the Lakeview Country Club, president of the West Central Mental Health Institute and president of the Winterset Utilities Board. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Shirley Bolton of Winterset; three children, Wm. ‘Bill’ (Julia) Bolton of West Des Moines, Deb Perkins of Winterset, and Lisa (Gary) Smith of Winterset; sister, Caroline Comstock of Fontanelle; 14 grandchildren, Andria Bolton, Nick (Jamie) Bolton, Brandon (Jackie) Bolton, Christopher Cimeley, Dominic (Mary) Cimeley, George Wallace, Relmond Wallace, Stacey Perkins, Aaron Perkins, Heather (Tyler) Beckel, Juston (Monica) Smith, Ryan (Amy) Smith, Cole (Samantha) Smith; 12 great-grandchildren, Cooper Eager, Kyle Edinger, Winter Edinger, Everly Bolton, Joseph Cimeley, Jackson Beckel, Camille Beckel, Cohen Smith, Rylee Smith, Brody Smith, Caleb Spencer, Keaton White, Peyten Spencer, Marlee Smith; 2 great great-grandchildren, Tysen Spencer and Maya Spencer

Don was preceded in death by his parents; brother and sister-in-law, Dick (Nancy) Bolton; and brothers-in-law, LeRoy “Bud” Ruth and Paul Comstock; and 3 great-grandchildren, Hayden Bryan Smith, Colebie Kay Smith, and Chance William Bolton.
