Marvin "Smitty" Smith

Marvin "Smitty" Smith, 59, of Conway, died Thursday, February 2, 2017 at the Allegiant Mercy Hospital in Corning. Celebration of Life Services will be 1:00 p.m. Monday, February 6, 2017 at the Powers Funeral Home in Creston. Pastor Ben Turner will officiate. Burial will be at a later date. Open visitation will be 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, February 5, with family receiving friends from 3 to 5 p.m. at Powers Funeral Home in Creston. Memorials are to Sleeping Angels Foundation or to the family. Marvin Dean Smith was born February 19, 1957 in Winterset, IA., to Wesley Charles Smith and Norma Lee Green. He graduated from East Union High School in 1975 and attended SWCC, graduating in 1976.

On July 5, 1975, Smitty was united in marriage to Roxanne Denise Sweet at the Arispe United Methodist Church. While living in Lorimor, he worked as an auto mechanic at K-Mart in Des Moines, and also was the manager at Union Gas. They later moved to Oklahoma where he was a heavy equipment operator and pipeline welder. In 1985, Smitty returned to Lorimor and he worked for Bar Nunn as an over the road truck driver and most recently had worked for O'Reilly Automotive. He worked there for the past 13 years as a sales specialist and retired from there in 2013. Smitty also farmed off and on through his life.

Survivors include his father Wesley Smith of Lorimor, Ia.; wife Roxanne Smith of Conway, Ia..; two daughters, Tonya D. Cook (David Davis) of Bedford, Ia. and Lacy A. Smith (Ron Brammer) of Conway, Ia.; one son, Tony Lee (wife Amber) Smith of Boone, Ia.; two sisters, Patricia (husband Bill) Koob of Russellville, Ala. and Janelle Chenoweth of Afton, Ia. and six grandchildren, Gracie Cook, Walon Cook, Logan Smith, Levi Smith, Liam Smith and Lucas Smith. He was preceded in death by his mother, Norma Smith and his brother Marion Smith.
