Cyrus L. Bunch, son of William and Elizabeth Bunch, was born in Indiana, March 4, 1848, and at the home of his daughter, Mrs. W. H. Morrison, in Redfield, Iowa, he departed from this life on April 4, 1933, at the age of eighty-five years and one month.

In 1853 he came with his parents to Iowa and resided in Davis, Van Buren, Madison and Dallas counties. In 1869 he was married to Rebecca Wilson at Winterset, Iowa. The greater part of their married life was spent in or near Stuart, where for a number of years Mr. Bunch was employed by the business concern, Holmes and Williams. He was an employee of the Rock Island Railroad for a period of approximately 20 years. He also worked for the Milwaukee railroad, running the construction train as the track was laid through Redfield to the Northwestern country.

In 1868 he was the driver of the stage from Ottumwa to Des Moines.

His acquaintance was even made wider as he operated a threshing machine many years and moved many buildings.

In 1891 he constructed the first electric light plant in Stuart and continued as its operator until 1895. Although the last ten years of his life were spent in California, he will be remembered by many in this community and surrounding territory.

Those left in mourning are two daughters, Mrs. Maude Hadley of San Gabriel, California, and Mrs. W. H. Morrison of Redfield, Iowa; three sons, Fred and Lester, of San Gabriel, California and Norval of Elmhurst, Ill.; two sisters, Mrs. Elwood Barnett of Linden, Iowa, and Mrs. C. L. Bonine of Omaha, Nebraska; nineteen grandchildren and ten great grandchildren, other relatives and numerous friends likewise sustain the loss of this loving father and brother, old acquaintance and kind friend.

The funeral was held at the Buckley Funeral Home Thursday, April 6th, at 2:30 p.m. conducted by the Rev. Paul Barnett, a nephew of the deceased. Two songs were rendered by Miss Nicholls, “Have Thine Own Way” and “No Night There”.

The pall bearers were: Frank Giles, Carl Duede, A. W. Lee, Jack Short, W. H. Morrison and H. A. Bailey.

Interment was in North Oak Grove cemetery in the family lot.
