DANIEL KELLOGG, Des Moines

Daniel Kellogg, 55, of Des Moines died Thursday, Feb. 9, 2017, at Taylor House Hospice after a two-year battle with leukemia.

A luncheon celebration of his life will be held Saturday, Feb. 18, at the Elwell Building at the Iowa State Fairgrounds, E. 30th and Grand Ave., Des Moines. Visitation is at 1 p.m. followed by a celebration of life from 2 - 4 p..m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to his family.

Daniel Joseph Kellogg was born and raised in Des Moines. He attended All Saints and St. Joseph's Catholic Grade Schools, and graduated from Des Moines Technical High School in 1979.

Dan met his wife, Dorothy, and they were married in 1984; to this union two children were born.

From his teen years throughout his life, Dan created a successful career in the automotive service industry. He began as a 16-year-old car porter at Betts-Cadillac in Des Moines, and was later promoted to a Service Advisor. From there, he had a long career at Ramsey Pontiac, and became one of the premier Service Advisors in Des Moines. Dan was known for his expert diagnostic abilities and outstanding work ethic.

He spent many years volunteering as a lector at St. Peter's Catholic Church. He later attended St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Winterset for almost 20 years.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy; daughter, Renee Kellogg; son, Michael Kellogg; mother, Darlene Kellogg, brother David (Mona) Kellogg; sisters, Kathy Hutt (Brian Broughton), Karol (Ken) Hargis, Karla (Miles) Smith and Karen (Rick) Clark; and several other family members and friends.
