Death of Rev. C. H. Newell

From the Daily Local, of De Funiak Springs, Florida, we learn of the death at that place, on Thursday, March 8th, of Rev. Charles H. Newell, former pastor of the Winterset church. His fatal illness was caused by a relapse of the grippe.

Before going to Florida, where he removed on account of his health, Mr. Newell had been connected with the Des Moines Methodist conference for twenty-five years. During the years 1882-84 he was pastor of the Methodist church of this place, where the news of his death is received with sorrow by a large number of friends, both within and without his former congregation. The Local speaks in warm terms of his worth as a clergyman and citizen.

Besides his widow, Mr. Newell leaves a son and daughter by his first wife, who died during his pastorate here.

Mr. Newell was a Royal Arch Mason, and at the time of his death held membership in the chapter at this place. He belonged to the Winterset A. O. U. W. (loyal) lodge, and held a $2,000 life insurance policy in that order. He was also an Odd Fellow in good standing. The funeral services were held on Saturday.
