Body Found Last Friday in Apartment on West Side Square
R. Lloyd Givan of Winterset, a well-known farmer in Webster township during his active life, was found dead last Friday in his upstairs apartment on the west side of the square here.
The body was found by George Montross, owner of the store under the apartment. Dr. Paul Eggleston, county medical examiner, reported the death resulted from natural causes, and apparently occurred Tuesday of last week.
Mr. Givan was born in Webster township Feb. 8, 1892, and was 76 years of age at his death. He was a son of Robert and Ada McFarland Givan.
He was married June 29, 1918 to Rose G. Sawyers. Her death occurred in 1966.
He was a veteran of World War I, and a member of the American Legion. He was a member of the Methodist church.
Mr. Givan is survived by six children, Mrs. Rex Haymond of Winterset, John Givan of Denver, Colo., Robert Givan of Winterset, Lyle Givan of Englewood, Colo., Louis Givan of Patterson, and David Givan of Sunnyvale, Calif.; 18 grandchildren; two great grandchildren; a brotgher, Carl Givan of Macksburg; and five sisters, Mrs. Dell Tucker of Winterset, Mrs. Lloyd Hannon of Atlantic, Mrs. Earl Wilson of Salida, Colo., Mrs. Everett Brown of Cut Knife, Canada, and Mrs. Edith Bevington of Council Bluffs.
Funeral services were held Monday from the First Methodist church in Winterset, conducted by the Rev. Everett K. Burham, pastor of the First Methodist church. Burial was made in the Greenfield cemetery, with military ritual at the graveside by Green Rogers post of the American Legion.
