The storm Wednesday night did much damage to the crops. In town nearly all the cellars were filled with water. The lightning struck J. R. Smull’s barn on the south side. Also John Rodger’s house west of town, damaging the house very much, but none of the family were injured. Thos. Harris had a cow and calf killed in his pasture, and south of Dexter a man by the name of Lee was struck and killed while out looking after his stock.

Quite a sad accident happened in Penn township at 9 o'clock Wednesday. W. K. Lee, one of the oldest settlers was struck and instantly killed by lightning while coming from the barn on his way to the house. He leaves a wife and eight children to mourn the loss thus brought within their midst. Funeral services were held today.
