November 23, 1948 - January 10, 2017Mary Smith, 68, of Lorimor, died Tuesday, January 10, 2017, at the Madison County Memorial Hospital in Winterset.
A visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m., Saturday, January 14, at Ochiltree Funeral Service in Winterset. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, January 14, at Ochiltree Funeral Service with burial to follow in the Lorimor Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the family.
Mary Louise Smith, daughter of Gerald and Edith (Hendrickson) Kerns, was born November 23, 1948, in Osceola, Iowa. Mary attended schools in the Murray area and graduated from Murray High School in 1967. She continued her education and became a Certified Nursing Assistant. Mary was united in marriage with Marion Smith on August 14, 1999, in the Lorimor City Park.
Mary worked as a CNA at many nursing homes for most of her working career. She also worked as a clerk at Pamida for 10 years before retiring in 2007. Mary was a member of the First Christian Church in Mt. Ayr and was also a Girl Scout Leader in Mt. Ayr for many years. She enjoyed going camping and taking motorcycle trips around the country. Mary lived for her grandchildren and loved when they visited and helped grandma take care of the chickens.
Above all else, Mary was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and sister who cherished the time she was able to spend with her family and friends.
She is survived by her three children, Justin (Julie) Neas of Kellerton, Rebecca (LeRoy) Lilly of Winterset, Jonathan (Jill) Neas of Urbandale; father-in-law, Wesley Smith of Lorimor; step-children, David (Meredith) Smith of Silverthorne, CO, Andrea Smith of Madrid, Corey Smith of Grimes; grandchildren, Clayton, Brody, Jackson, Joshua, Jaime, Jeffery and Ella Neas; Samantha and Emma Lilly, Caleb, Liberty, Caden, Brennlyn Smith; great grandson, Brantley Neas; siblings, Gary Kerns of Murray, Bill (Julie) Kerns of Murray, Betty (Joe) Babinat of Marshalltown; nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Marion Smith.
