Mrs. Lena Williams Hicks, daughter of Edward and Mary Ellen Lloyd Williams, was born in Oskaloosa, Iowa, January 7, 1885 and departed this life June 28, 1970. She grew to young womanhood in Carroll County, Iowa.

At the age of 20 she was united in marriage to Harry Martin Hicks, the marriage taking place in Boone, Iowa. They first set up housekeeping in the Carroll community, but later made their home in the Dexter, Menlo and Stuart area.

To this union were born: Mrs. Reuben (Edith) Blomquist of Menlo, Iowa; Mrs. Howard (Elma) Hagen, Des Moines, Iowa; Mrs. Leah Hardisty, Council Bluffs, Iowa and Harry C. Hicks of Des Moines, Iowa.

Mrs. Hicks belonged to the United Methodist Church, the Eastern Star, and was Noble Grand of the Rebekah Lodge. She was also a long time member of the M. C. Club.

Mrs. Hicks was preceded in death by her parents and her husband who passed away July 1, 1929.

Those surviving to mourn her passing are the above named children, 8 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and one nephew.

There is much that could be said in eulogy. Many people who have known Mrs. Hicks for long years speak kindly of her. She was a good wife, a good mother, a good neighbor, and a good church member. She was four score years of age, and always a Christian—an old fashioned Christian who always wanted her pastor to read from the Bible and lead in prayer when he called—either in the home or hospital. She suffered much in her illness, but accepted her suffering, just passing lightly her illness.

Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon, June 30 from the United Methodist Church at Stuart with Rev. Eugene C. Sears officiating. Music was provided by Mrs. Richard Wood, organist and Richard Wood, vocalist. Assisting with the flowers were Mrs. John Hauf, Mrs. Mary C. Simons and Mrs. Asa Blair. Pallbearers were Frank Meyer, Oscar Draman, Alex Hanner, Elmer Blomquist, Dean Williams and Tony Wolfe. Interment was in the Penn Center Cemetery.
