Elvie Strong, son of William and Mary Strong, was born Oct. 16, 1883, in Madison County, near Winterset, Iowa, and passed away suddenly at Stuart, Iowa, June 24, 1943, at the age of 59 years, 8 months and 8 days.

Feb. 5, 1903, he was united in marriage to Daisy Weaver, of Pitzer, Ia., who passed away Nov. 14, 1916.

To this union 2 children were born: Floyd of Hastings, Nebraska, and a daughter who died in infancy.

The early years of his married life were spent farming in Madison County. He then moved to Stuart where he has been engaged in active real estate business since.

He was preceded in death by his wife and infant daughter, his father and mother, an older brother and an infant brother.

He is survived by his son, Floyd, Floyd’s wife, Pauline, two grandchildren, Jimmy and Donna, of Hastings, Nebraska; 4 brothers, his twin, Elvin of Stuart, Charles of Minot, N. D., William and Albert of Des Moines; 2 sisters, Bell Kesner of Chicago, Edith Reed of Des Moines, besides many nephews and nieces.

He was a good father and citizen. He was honest in his dealings and had the respect of the community. He will be greatly missed by his son and family, his brothers and sisters and especially his twin brother Elvin of Stuart, with whom he was an almost constant companion.

Many friends and neighbors extend their sympathy to the relatives.

Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon from the Bufkin Funeral Home, conducted by Rev. Earnest Smith. Interment was in the Penn Center cemetery.

The following people from out of town attended the services: Mrs. Bell Kesner, of Chicago; Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Reed, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Strong, of Des Moines; Mr. and Mrs. Sheldon Strong, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Thompson of Earlham; Mrs. Will Spear of Newton; Mrs. Walter Smith and Mrs. Roy Smith of Winterset; Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Christensen and Berniece of Greenfield; Mr. and Mrs. D. P. Rosenberger, of Guthrie Center; and Mrs. Hattie Davis of Earlham.

ELVIN STRONG

Elvin Strong, son of William and Mary Strong, was born October 16, 1883, in Madison county near Winterset, Iowa.

He suffered a stroke on Thursday, March 14, and was taken to Madison County Memorial hospital in Winterset where he passed away on Tuesday, March 19, 1968.

He spent most of his life in Madison and Adair counties.

In 1929 he was united in marriage to Myrtle Antram of Stuart.

For several years they made their home in Earlham, where he was in real estate business in partnership with his twin brother Elvie, who had his office in Stuart.

Later they moved to their farm east of Stuart, where he engaged in farming until retiring.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Myrtle, a twin brother Elvie, also brothers Chas., James and William.

He is survived by a daughter Lucy by a former marriage, brother Albert of Winterset; sisters Edith Reed of Des Moines and Bell Kesner of Chicago; a nephew Sheldon Strong of Earlham whom he helped to raise, and other nieces and nephews.

For the past several years, he lived at the Glen Schmidt home where he resided until his death.

Funeral services were held in Bufkin-Link Funeral Home, Stuart, Iowa, on Friday, March 22. Interment in Earlham cemetery.
