Harriet Nevins, 79 formerly of Winterset, passed away Wednesday, December 28, 2016 at Wesley Acres in Des Moines.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 3:00 p.m., Tuesday, January 3, 2017, at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Des Moines.

A visitation with family present will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Monday, January 2, 2017, at Ochiltree Funeral Service, Winterset.
Burial will be held at a later date in the Calvary Cemetery, Stuart.

Memorials may be directed to the family for a later designation and online condolences may be directed to the family at ochiltree.com.
Harriet Ann Messinger was born October 28, 1937 in Casey, to Leo and Dorothy (Reynolds) Messinger. She graduated from Menlo High School and married Lawrence D. Nevins on November 18, 1957 in Casey, Iowa.

Harriet began her working career with the Menlo Bank after high school. After moving to Winterset she worked for Mills Chevrolet and Brittains Furniture where she did bookkeeping and sales.

Harriet was a member of the Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Des Moines as well as a St. Joseph Catholic Church in Winterset where she was an active member including work with the Altar and Rosary.

Harriet was a good cook. She enjoyed spending time at the lake house, camping, watching birds and any travel, especially to Colorado. Family was very special to her and she was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother who loved nothing more than the time spent with her family.

Harriet is survived by her children, Mike (Linda) Nevins of Winterset; Patricia (Tim) Bailey of Des Moines; a brother, Howard (Diane) Messinger of Casey and three grandchildren, Jennifer Saffell and David and Katie Bailey.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband who died September 19, 2009.
