Services Held For Mrs. L. N. Thompson

Mrs. L. N. Thompson, 53, died May 31 in the Dexter clinic, following an extended illness.

She and her husband came to Stuart 19 years ago and have been active in community affairs since that time.

Mrs. Thompson served for a number of years as superintendent of the Congregational Sunday school, and has always been an active worker in all departments of the church. She was a member of the Eastern Star and of the Stuart Garden club.

Services were held June 2 at the Congregational church, with interment in the Earlham cemetery. An obituary will be published later.

Marie C. Thompson was born September 1900 to Will and Sophie Sailer at Ackley. She passed away May 31, 1953 at the age of 52 years and eight months.

She spent her childhood on a farm near Ackely, where she attended the Ackely Public schools, graduating in 1918.

In continuing her education she attended Iowa State college at Ames and received a bachelor of science degree in 1926 and later studied at the University of Chicago.

Marie taught in the public schools at Geneva, Hubbard, Earlham and Atlantic.

On June 30, 1934 she was married to Lyle Thompson of Earlham and they made their home these 19 years in Stuart.

To this union two children were born, a daughter Mary l. and a son William N.

Mrs. Thompson was baptized and confirmed in the St. John’s Evangelical and Reformed Church of Ackley and later with her husband joined the First Congregational church in Stuart, where she was very active.

She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star.

Marie is survived by her husband, two children and two sisters, Louise and Helen Sailer and many relatives.

Eastern Star services were conducted from the Congregational church June 2 at 2 p.m. by Rev. Gordon Blunt.

Music was presented by Mrs. C. W. Brewster, Mrs. William Ryan and Mrs. Gordon Blunt, Mrs. Richard Wood accompanied them on the organ.

Casketbearers were Frank Meyers, George Trowbridge, Rex Miner, Ivan Everett, Everett Schultz and Ned Osborn.

Interment was in the Earlham cemetery.
