Nina B. Smith Hale, member of a pioneer family and a former resident of Winterset, Iowa died Sunday evening, May 24 at the age of 97. She had just celebrated her birthday on May the ninth.
She was married March 13, 1901 to James Allen Hale and to this union was born one son, Edward Everett who survives and a step son who passed away several years ago.
She is survived by her son, seven grandchildren and several great grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held in the Methodist Church at 1 p.m. Sunday, may 31 at West Liberty, Iowa.

Mrs. Nina Hale
WEST LIBERTY – Mrs. Nina Hale, 97, of West Liberty, died at her home Sunday afternoon after an extended illness.
A memorial service will be a 2 p.m. Sunday at the West Liberty United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Lawrence Carlton officiating. Mrs. Hale had willed her body to the University of Iowa College of Medicine. Memorial contributions may be made to the West Liberty United Methodist Church. Snider Funeral Home at West Liberty has charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Hale was born May 9, 1873 near Winterset, daughter of James and Martha Johnson Smith. She was married to James A. Hale on March 13, 1901, at St. Charles. She was a member of the West Liberty United Methodist Church, a charter member of its Women’s Society of Christian Service, and a member of the American Legion Auxiliary.
Surviving are a son, Dr. E. E. Hale of West Liberty; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren. Her husband and a son preceded her in death.
