Page 5Anderson McLees, Sr., was born in County Antrim, Ireland, in 1820. In 1837 he emigrated to America and settled in Philadelphia. In 1850 he removed to Richmond, Ohio, and 1854 to Madison county, Iowa, and settled in Crawford township. In 1872 the family moved to Lincoln township, and 1892 to Scott township, and in 1899 to Winterset, where his death occurred, Monday, August 4, after a long and painful sickness.
In 1845 Mr. McLees was married to Sarah J. McKinney. To them were born seven children, three sons, John, of Lincoln township, Anderson, of Winterset, and William; and four daughters, Mrs. Michael Gamble, of Crawford township, Mrs. T. B. Hunter and Mrs. L. C. Houk, of Winterset, and a daughter having died in infancy.
Mr. McLees became a member of the Covenant church in 1845, and later of the United Presbyterian church. He was a man of stern integrity and was respected for his upright life and amiable qualities.
The funeral services were held Wednesday from the United Presbyterian church, conducted by Rev. Henry Wallace.
