Mrs. Margaret Sena Catterlin, daughter of Phillip M. and Margaret Shoop, was born in Abingdon, Illinois, Nov. 4, 1854, and died at Canon City, Colo., Dec. 14, 1912. Her education was secured at Abingdon in the public school and in Hedding College. In 1882, she came with her parents to Winterset. February 26, 1889, she was united in marriage with Sherman E. Catterlin of this place. Into the home thus formed, two children came, Phillip Claire and Vera.

About eight years ago, her health began to fail, and a little more than five years ago, it was thought best on account of asthmatic conditions, to remove to a different climate. Canon City, Colo. was selected as a suitable place. Here she received much benefit, and after six months, returned to her home, but soon discovered that she could not remain here, and after a visit of a few weeks, returned to the west. Since that time she has been engaged in an unceasing warfare against ill health, till her death from Bright’s disease.

She was the child of Christian parents and in infancy was consecrated to God in holy baptism, and in childhood was admitted to membership in the Methodist Episcopal church, of which she remained an interested and consistent member, and as long as her health permitted, an active and efficient one.

During her long illness, she exemplified in an unusual degree, the strength and graces of a pure, Christian faith. She had no fear of death, and no dread of the hour of her departure. She gave unmistakable testimony of her faith in Jesus as a personal Savior, and said that her only great concern was for the welfare of her loved ones.

She was administered to in her last hours by her husband and daughter. Owing to the sudden coming of death, the presence of her son was denied her, Claire arriving only in time to join them in the sad journey to the former home. Mrs. Catterlin leaves a host of friends in both Canon City and Winterset to mourn her departure.
