TruroLaura C. Phipps Lowe was born near St. Charles, Iowa, May 30, 1860, and died at her home in Truro, Iowa, October 7, 1933, having spent her entire life of more than seventy-three years in Madison county, Iowa.
On October 6, 1878, she was united in marriage to William Lowe. They settled on a farm south of Truro, where they lived for thirty-eight years. Eighteen years ago they moved to Truro, where they have since made their home. For more than a half century Mr. and Mrs. Lowe have maintained a home in this vicinity. They passed their fifty-fifth wedding anniversary on Friday, October 6, 1933. To them five children were born, three sons and two daughters. The sons are James of Seymour, Iowa, Harry of Crookston, Nebr., and Perry of Truro. The daughters are Mrs. C. C. Neff and Mrs. Harvey Woods, both of Truro. Besides her aged husband, her children and eight grandchildren she leaves four half brothers, Elmer Phipps of Adren, Mo., Charles of Decatur, Iowa, Jas. of Cheyenne, Wyo., and Ivor of Washington state.
In early life she united with the M.E. church at St. Charles. For a number of years she worshipped with the Church of God congregation. When she came to Truro to live she transferred her membership to the Truro M.E. church. She had a Christian experience that enabled her to often praise God aloud. She was very able in prayer. She tried to live an exemplary Christian life. She has been a blessing in the church and community. Our hearts are troubled with sadness because she has gone away, but it is a consolation to know that she was prepared and ready to go. We believe her final word to us would be, “Be ye also ready.”
