1843----Catherine E. Snider---1926

Catherine E. Yahne-Snider was born in Stark County, Ohio, on May 5th, 1843. She died at Sutherland, Iowa, July 21st, 1926, having attained the age of 83 years, 2 months and 16 days.

When but three years of age she moved with her parents to Huntington County, Indiana, where she grew to young womanhood. There also she married John Snider in 1865, who was then a young recently returned Civil War Veteran. They commenced homekeeping on a rented farm near their home town.

In 1866 they removed to Madison County, Iowa, where their two daughters were born. They lived there until September, 1873, when the little family moved to O’Brien County, and were among the first settlers in this county.

Here they purchased their first farm, a quarter section situated about 3 ˝ miles south of Sutherland. By hard labor and thrift and constant care they developed their land into one of the best improved farm homes in the county, having an abundance of fruit trees and shade trees, fine buildings and such things as hard labor and careful planning and doing secures.

Thirteen years ago Mr. Snider passed away. Since that time Mrs. Snider has lived here in Sutherland, with a daughter, Minnie, who has cared for her.

She is survived by her two daughters, Miss Minnie Snider of Sutherland and Mrs. Annie Seeman of Spirit Lake, Ia.; two sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Payton of Plover, N. Dak., and Hattie M. Howe of Truro, Iowa; also six grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.

Mrs. Snider during the time of her health and strength was a very hard working woman, always trying to do what she thought was upright and honest in her association with her neighbors. She was converted and joined the Methodist Episcopal church in her young womanhood, and retained her Christian faith until the end.

The funeral services was conducted from the home Saturday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock, Rev. Thos. Batho, pastor of the Methodist church, officiating. Interment was made in Waterman cemetery.

Out of town relatives present at the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. S. C. Howe and Mr. and Mrs. D. Hale of Truro, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. Henry Seeman, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Hayes and Mr. and Mrs. Harold Fogelman of Spirit Lake, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. Eldon Seeman of Spencer; Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Bunce of Primghar, and Mr. and Mrs. Gus Prahne of Quimby.
