MARVIN GARRETT SR., Creston

Marvin E. Garrett Sr., 91, of Creston, died Saturday, September 3, 2016 at the Creston Specialty Care in Creston. Private services will be held at a later date. Burial will be private at Moon Cemetery, south of Macksburg. Powers Funeral Home in Creston is assisting with arrangements. Online condolences can be given at www.powersfh.com. 

Marvin Earl Garrett Sr., son of Martha Lillian (Grandfield) Garrett and Russell LaVigne Garrett, was born on Dec. 29, 1924 in the Afton, Iowa area. He graduated from Macksburg High School in 1942. Marvin served in the United States Army, during World War II. 

On June 13, 1943, Marvin married Harriet Emily Lattig in Maryville, Missouri. They primarily lived and worked out of the Macksburg, Winterset and Pitzer areas. Marvin was best known for owning and operating his own Tractor/Trailer Semi, as well as being "A Jack of All Trades & A Master of Many". They later moved to Kinsley, Kansas where Marvin sold his truck, and worked as the dispatcher in the Transportation Department for Cross Manufacturing out of Lewis, Kansas until retirement. They then moved back to Macksburg and later to Creston. 

Marvin was a member of the Theodore J. Martens Post #1797 of the Creston VFW and the Creston American Legion Post #70. 

Marvin is survived by his wife Harriet of Creston; three daughters, Sherry (husband Dennis) Lauranzano of Colorado Springs, Colo., Sharlene Hood of Winterset and Terri (husband Steve) Wendland of Lawrence, Kan.; two sons, Marv (wife Chris) Garrett of Allen, Texas and Rick (wife Doreen) Garrett of Creston; 13 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great-grandchildren.

Marvin was preceded in death by his parents, and three brothers, Raymond, Don and Bob Garrett.
