Mr. and Mrs. Ross Goodrich of Lucas came here Tuesday and were accompanied home by her mother, Mrs. May Myers and on Wednesday they attended the funeral of Grant Smart at the Methodist church in Indianola.

Grant Smart Funeral Set

INDIANOLA, IA. —Services for Grant U. Smart, 35, of Indianola, who died Saturday night in Mercy Hospital, Des Moines, of a gunshot wound, will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the First Methodist Church here. Burial will be at Truro.

The Warren County sheriff’s office said Monday morning that no charges had been filed in the shooting. Investigation was continuing.

Wife in Hospital

Sheriff William Mathews said Mr. Smart died late Saturday of a .32-caliber pistol wound in the abdomen. A neighbor found him lying on the basement floor of the Smart home about 8:45 p.m. Saturday.

His wife, Sue, suffering from shock, was in an Osceola hospital Monday.

A Salesman

Mr. Smart was a salesman for Chader Monrach Co., Inc., of Des Moines. Born in Creston, he had been in Indianola resident since 1959.

Surviving besides his wife are two sons, Kelly, 9, and Kirby, 5; a daughter, Kayla, 2; his parents, Mr. and Mrs Arthur Smart of St. Charles; two sisters, Mrs. Wayne Gibbons and Mrs. Earl Estell of Norwalk, and three brothers, Sam Smart of Memphis, Tenn., William Armstrong of Forest City and Jerry Armstrong of Amarillo, Tex.

Indianola Woman To Grand Jury

Mrs. Sue Smart, 29, charged with murder in the death of her husband Grant, 35, was bound over to the Warren county grand jury last Wednesday following a hearing before Justice of the Peace Walter Overmyer.

The secret hearing was held in the courthouse and Mrs. Smart remained free on the $10,000 bond.

Mr. Smart was fatally wounded in the abdomen by a .22 caliber bullet at about 8:30 p.m., Saturday, September 9. The shooting occurred in the basement of the Smart home in Indianola.
