Larry L. Bechtel, Urbandale

Larry L. Bechtel, 84, passed away on Tuesday, September 6, 2016 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. Per Larry's wishes, he has been cremated and a memorial service will be held at a later date. Inurnment will take place at Resthaven Mausoleum in West Des Moines.

Larry was born July 7, 1932 in Earlham, IA to Virginia and Oliver Bechtel. The family moved several times, but settled in Adel where Larry graduated high school. He then joined the U.S. Navy and later returned to Des Moines to work at NW Bell (Century Link) where he met his wife of 58 years, Wanda. The couple raised two children in Urbandale.

Larry is survived by his wife, Wanda; daughter, Jody (Dan); son, Tom (Masayo); four grandchildren, Ryan, Aron, Jenna and Kenny; sister, Donna; sisters-in-law, Sherry Bain and Paula Rissman; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Marlin.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Westkirk Presbyterian Church in Urbandale, where he was a member.
