Death of a Former Winterseter

From the York, Nebraska Democrat

Friday afternoon of last week the lifeless body of Manning Drake, residing eight miles northwest of this city, was found near his home, lying in a pool of water about sixteen inches deep. Mr. Drake has been in very feeble health for several years, and has been attacked with palsy, and the opinion of physicians is that he was stricken with paralysis and fell into the water face downward and was drowned. The coroner called a jury and a verdict was recorded in accordance with these facts.

Mr. Drake was about 70 years of age and quite feeble. He came to this county with his family about nine years ago from Winterset, Iowa, and the editor has known him for the past twenty years as an honorable, upright and conscientious man in all his dealings with his fellow citizens.

He leaves a wife, three sons and four daughters, Mrs. John D. Huffman, of York; Mrs. T. J. Shipley, of Lockridge township, and two who reside at home.

The funeral services were held Sunday afternoon from the residence in Lockridge township.
