J. D. Clanton, 74 and a highly respected citizen of the community, passed away at the Hall nursing home in Truro on Dec. 28 after a long illness. Excepting a few years in California, his entire life was spent near St. Charles.
He is survived by his wife and son Loy of Los Angeles. The funeral was set for Thursday, while waiting for the son to arrive, but a message came Tuesday saying he could neither get reservations on train nor plane and was unable to get here for the last rites. Mr. Clanton is also survived by one sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Peffley of St. Charles.
Funeral services were conducted at the Methodist church in St. Charles Thursday afternoon by the Rev. Mile of Des Moines. Burial was made in the St. Charles cemetery with the Masonic rites given at the graveside.
